Encourage consumers to submit applications today!
Today we will start distributing email to those who applied for Blue Shield health coverage after December 15th, informing them that they may be eligible for a January 1, 2018 start date.

Applicants whose previous insurer discontinued their health coverage as of December 31, 2017, still qualify for a January 1, 2018 start date. This is due to Special Enrollment Period (SEP) regulations.

Please note: Blue Shield is expecting a high volume of applications and SEP effective date change requests during this period which will increase processing time. Please encourage your clients to take the following steps if they are interested in a January 1 start date.

If your client has NOT applied:

  1. Submit an electronic application for Blue Shield health coverage by December 31, 2017 – this needs to be done as soon as possible. Processing will not begin until this has been completed.
  2. Request a coverage start date change to January 1, 2018 along with their full name, application ID, and attach a copy of the notification of coverage loss from their previous insurance carrier – click here; send an email to [email protected]

If your client has already applied:

  1. Request a coverage start date change to January 1, 2018 along with their full name, application ID, and attach a copy of the notification of coverage loss from their previous insurance carrier – click here; send an email to [email protected]

Their request must be received in writing and cannot be processed over the phone. Please note that we anticipate a high volume of applications and the reconciliation process will take at least 10 business days to process.
