my 20 year old son was on medi-cal but coverage was terminated because our income was too high.
trying to enroll him on our plans through covered california, he comes up as medi-cal eligible.
covered california says it is a soft pause and medi-cal will have to release him.
medi-cal says it is a problem with covered california website. back and forth between the two of them for almost a month and 8 hours of phone call, finally some who knows what to do at medi-cal gets him released.
he is added to our accounts at covered california. i report a pay raise the next week and bam- he is medi-cal eligible again and our subsidies and coverage under covered california are all messed up again. it is 4 hours on hold and no one at medi-cal will do anything to release him.
why doesn’t medi-cal help?
Why is my website so much more informative than Medi-Cals or Covered CA’s?
Medi-Cal like any other “business” wants to expand. So they have a motive to keep you there. The Co-Pays and deductibles are lower. They include adult dental & vision.
Medi-Cal and the Insurance Companies don’t pay agents, yet it’s just as time consuming and complex to help people with Medi Cal as a Covered CA or direct plan!

Free Medical, Dental, Vision and Preventive Care
The REEF Exposition Hall
1933 South Broadway
Los Angeles, California 90007
CARE HARBOR: A destination and a gateway
Care Harbor provides free medical, dental and vision care to the uninsured, underinsured and underserved in our communities. For those who live without access to the care they need, our clinic events are a destination for help and hope.
Care Harbor is also a gateway. Patients who have conditions needing follow-up are connected to medical homes for continuing care after the clinic ends. And all those who come to Care Harbor receive prevention and self-care resources that empower them to lead healthier lives. We are working to bring lasting change to the individuals and communities we serve.
Care Harbor is transforming free clinic events from episodic to sustainable care. In today’s rapidly evolving healthcare environment, we are meeting the challenge with innovations that can help our most vulnerable populations live healthy, productive lives.
Healthcare on a massive scale
Care Harbor converts arenas and other large venues into working clinics treating thousands of people in the space of a few days. Our events may have 100 dental chairs, 20 vision lanes, 40 primary care and subspecialty exam rooms, a women’s health section, dispensary, and many other resources. We offer everything from dental fillings, extractions and cleanings to eye exams and prescription glasses, from medical evaluations and procedures to immunizations and screenings.
Follow-up caredental surgery at CareHarbor in LA
Care Harbor is a temporary clinic but we do not provide temporary care. We connect patients with conditions that require further treatment or evaluation to local clinics and practices that can provide ongoing primary and specialty care. Representatives from these facilities are on site at Care Harbor to make follow-up appointments before patients leave the event.
Prevention and wellness
Prevention is the most effective and economical form of healthcare. We provide counseling and resources from smoking cessation to nutrition, from stress management to emergency preparedness. We’ve innovated a preventive dentistry section to help maintain oral health (90% of dental problems are preventable). Our healthcare philosophy of prevention as well as intervention leads to healthier individuals, families and communities.
A continuing need
Even in this era of healthcare reform, some 30 million people will remain uninsured by Eye examination by optometrist at CareHarbor LA2020, according to the Congressional Budget Office. Those with insurance may have limited dental or vision coverage, or deductibles they cannot afford. The community shares this burden. When uninsured patients use a local ER for primary care, the unreimbursed costs increase everyone’s insurance premiums. When treatable diseases are allowed to progress to a critical and costly stage, they add to the burden on local safety net resources. Conversely, correcting vision, dental or other health problems can increase employability and productivity. Accessible care benefits everyone.

It’s been a whirlwind deciding what to do, health-insurance-wise and, after a consultation with our tax guy, we’ve decided to register for Medi-cal. I know you get no money from this, so I’m sorry for wasting your time with Oscar Insurance inquiries.
Thank you for all of your help.
We’ll be in touch in the future if, as we hope, we can make enough money to get back on CC.
