Find Mental Health Providers &
Behavioral Health Resources

  • Looking for a therapist, psychiatrist, counselor, rehab program, or other behavioral health provider?
  • Many insurance companies use separate behavioral health networks and provider directories.
  • This page can help you navigate mental health provider searches for Covered California, Medicare, Medi-Cal, employer health plans, and more.

Ways to #Find a Therapist

Google Search for ONLINE Therapists

Here’s what I googled for online therapists. Check with them and ask what Insurance Plans they take. Then double check on the official Insurance Company provider list.

Behavioral health provider directories can change frequently. Always verify whether the provider is accepting new patients, participates with your insurance plan, and offers in-person or telehealth appointments.

#TeleMed - Telehealth

See a Doctor by Video or Phone

Telehealth lets you receive care from a healthcare professional without traveling to the office. Depending on your needs and coverage, you may be able to use video or telephone appointments for certain illnesses, follow-up visits, medication management, and mental health counseling.

  • Start with your doctor or health plan.
    • Ask whether your regular doctor offers virtual appointments, or sign in to your health plan’s member website or app to find its designated telehealth service.
    • Some services connect you with an available clinician rather than your own doctor. Hours and available services vary.
  • Check coverage and cost before your visit.
    • Telehealth is not automatically free. Your cost depends on your plan, the service, and whether the provider participates in your  health plan’s network.
    • A plan’s advertised $0 virtual-care benefit may apply only to its designated telehealth service.
  • Have Medicare?
  • Some problems require an in-person visit.
    • The clinician may recommend an examination, testing, or other care that cannot be provided remotely.
    • For a medical emergency, call 911.
