UCLA Health Insurance Accepted — 2026 Guide
If UCLA Health is important to you, do not choose a health plan based only on the insurance-company name or premium. Verify the exact plan, network, doctor, medical group, UCLA facility and referral requirements before enrolling.
- UCLA Health currently accepts a wide range of insurance, including Medicare, Medi-Cal, certain Medicare Advantage plans, employer HMO/POS/PPO plans and select individual health plans.
- That does not mean every plan sold by an insurance company includes every UCLA doctor or facility.
- Start with my web page — Find Your Doctor Before You Enroll.
- Then check UCLA Health — Health Insurance Accepted and your insurance company’s current provider directory.
If you want help checking UCLA before enrolling, email [email protected] with your ZIP code, doctors, prescriptions and whether you need individual, employer or Medicare coverage.
What Insurance Does UCLA Health Accept?
- Original Medicare: UCLA currently lists Medicare among the government programs it accepts.
- Medicare Supplement / Medigap: Medigap works with Original Medicare rather than using its own HMO-style hospital network.
- Medicare Advantage: UCLA participation is plan-specific. UCLA currently lists specific HMO, HMO-POS and PPO arrangements.
- Covered California & Individual Plans: UCLA says select individually purchased plans are accepted and specifically states that several Blue Shield individual PPO plans sold through the Covered CA may cover UCLA.
- Employer Plans: UCLA currently lists numerous employer HMO, POS and PPO insurance arrangements.
- Medi-Cal: UCLA’s current insurance page still lists Medi-Cal. However, there is an important 2026 change involving Health Care LA, IPA, explained below.

Does UCLA Accept Covered California & Blue Shield PPO?
UCLA Health accepts select health plans purchased directly by individuals and families or through Covered California. However, the exact network matters.
- UCLA’s current accepted-insurance page says that Blue Shield offers several exchange plans that may cover care at UCLA Health.
- Do not assume that every Blue Shield PPO, HMO or other network automatically includes UCLA.
- Check your doctors and hospitals using my web page — Provider Finder & Network Guide.
- Then verify the exact plan with UCLA Health — Insurance Accepted and Blue Shield’s current provider directory.
Important: UCLA has a separate Covered California page that still identifies its information as being for 2025. Because plan networks can change each year, I would not rely on that older page alone when choosing 2026 coverage.
Does UCLA Accept L.A. Care Covered California?
L.A. Care offers individual and family coverage through Covered California, which is different from L.A. Care’s Medi-Cal program.
- See my web page — L.A. Care Covered California for information about L.A. Care individual and family plans.
- UCLA’s separate Covered California webpage listed L.A. Care Covered among its accepted Covered California options for 2025.
- Because UCLA’s Covered California page is still labeled for 2025, verify the exact 2026 L.A. Care Covered plan, UCLA doctor and facility before enrolling.
- Do not assume that L.A. Care Covered California and L.A. Care Medi-Cal have the same UCLA provider arrangements.
Does UCLA Accept L.A. Care Medi-Cal?
L.A. Care is also a Medi-Cal managed care health plan. This is separate from L.A. Care Covered California coverage.
- UCLA’s current insurance information continues to list Medi-Cal as an accepted government health insurance program.
- However, Medi-Cal access to UCLA can depend on the patient’s health plan, assigned medical group or IPA, doctor, authorization and referral arrangements.
- See my web page — L.A. Care for L.A. Care information.
- See my web page — How to Pick a Medi-Cal HMO / Managed Care Plan.
- If UCLA is important to you, verify the exact L.A. Care Medi-Cal arrangement before changing plans or medical groups.
Does UCLA Accept Medicare & Medigap?
- UCLA Health currently lists Medicare as accepted at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center.
- See my web page — What Medicare Part A & Part B Cover.
- If you have Original Medicare plus a Medicare Supplement, see my web page — Medigap Plans in California.
- With Original Medicare, the important question is whether the particular doctor or provider accepts Medicare and whether Medicare covers the service.
- A Medicare Supplement generally does not create a separate UCLA provider network; it supplements Original Medicare’s covered costs according to the Medigap plan.
- Always verify an individual UCLA physician because hospital participation and physician participation are not necessarily identical.
Which Medicare Advantage Plans Does UCLA Accept?
Medicare Advantage is plan-specific. An insurance company can sell several Medicare Advantage plans, and UCLA may participate with one network but not another.
UCLA’s current accepted-insurance page lists the following arrangements:
- Medicare Advantage from UnitedHealthcare CA-37P (HMO-POS) —
- UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage PPO arrangements.
- Anthem Medicare Advantage PPO —
- UCLA’s own 2026 Medicare Advantage program is available in Los Angeles County.
- Before choosing any Medicare Advantage plan, verify your exact plan name, PCP, medical group, specialists, UCLA facility, prescriptions and referral requirements.
- See my web page — Original Medicare vs. Medicare Advantage for the broader comparison.
Employer Health Insurance Accepted by UCLA
Employer coverage can have much broader or simply different provider networks than individual health insurance. UCLA currently lists numerous employer HMO, POS and PPO arrangements.
- My web page — Aetna Employer Group Plans
- My web page — Anthem Blue Cross & Other Employer Insurance Companies
- My web page — Blue Shield Employer Group Plans
- My web page — UnitedHealthcare Employer Plans
- My web page — Compare California Small Group Health Plans
UCLA’s current employer list includes HMO/POS arrangements involving Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Cigna, Health Net, UnitedHealthcare and Vivity, as well as a longer list of PPO networks.
- The insurance-company name alone is not enough.
- Verify the exact employer plan and network.
- For an HMO or POS plan, verify the PCP and medical group.
- Verify each important UCLA specialist and facility.
- Check referral and prior-authorization requirements before receiving care.

Important 2026 UCLA Medi-Cal / Health Care LA IPA Change
UCLA has not stopped accepting Medi-Cal across the board. UCLA Health’s current insurance page continues to list Medi-Cal as an accepted government health insurance program.
However, an important contract change can affect certain Medi-Cal patients whose specialty care was arranged through Health Care LA, IPA.
- The longtime specialty-care contract between UCLA Health and Health Care LA, IPA expired on June 30, 2026.
- The Los Angeles Times reported September 5, 2026 that the arrangement had involved approximately 9,000 medically frail Medi-Cal patients receiving specialty care through UCLA.
- UCLA and Health Care LA subsequently announced a transition arrangement allowing established UCLA patients, people with existing appointments and certain other patients to continue receiving UCLA care during the transition.
- Health Care LA, IPA is not the same organization as L.A. Care Health Plan.
- If your Medi-Cal medical group or provider arrangement is changing,
If you are already receiving treatment at UCLA: Do not assume from a news story that your UCLA treatment must stop. Contact your health plan and medical group and ask specifically whether your current care continues, whether authorization is already in place, and whether you qualify for continuity of care.
How to Verify UCLA Before You Enroll
Do not stop after finding the words “UCLA” in an online directory. Verify the whole chain of care.
- 1. Check the exact insurance plan.
- A carrier may have several different HMO, PPO, EPO, employer, individual and Medicare networks.
- 2. Check your UCLA doctor. Search the doctor’s full name and correct office location.
- 3. Check the medical group or IPA. This is especially important with HMO and Medicare Advantage coverage.
- 4. Check the hospital or UCLA facility. A doctor’s participation does not automatically guarantee every facility is in-network.
- 5. Check referrals and prior authorization. Even an in-network provider may require the proper referral or authorization.
- 6. Start with my web page — Provider Finder & Network Guide.
- 7. Check UCLA Health’s official accepted-insurance page.
- 8. Check the insurance company’s own provider directory.
- 9. If keeping a UCLA doctor is critical, save a PDF or screenshot of the provider-directory result.
- Provider networks can change and written documentation may be useful if a directory is later disputed.
- 10. If a provider is leaving the network while you are undergoing treatment,
