Why BenefitsCal May Ask About Assets, Property and Vehicles
Asset rules do not apply to every Medi-Cal category. However, beginning January 1, 2026, asset limits again apply to certain Non-MAGI Medi-Cal groups, including many people who are age 65 or older, have a disability or receive long-term-care services.
BenefitsCal may therefore ask about:
- Bank and financial accounts;
- Homes and other real property;
- Vehicles;
- Business or personal property; and
- Other items of value.
Some property may be excluded from the Medi-Cal asset calculation. Do not assume that everything BenefitsCal asks about will necessarily be counted.
